The Vermont Department of Financial Regulation is looking for a Director of Policy. This position is integral to the development and implementation of Department policy and legislative objectives. You’ll interface with the Legislature, the Governor’s Office, federal/state governmental entities, and external constituencies regarding the public policies of the Department. In consultation with the Commissioner and deputy commissioners, the Director Of Policy articulates the scope, direction, and priorities for major legislative projects and planning. In this role, you will recommend and coordinate decisions when it requires the agreement of other senior managers, other stakeholders, or legislative representatives both internally and externally.
Duties are performed in a standard office setting or in the Legislature during the legislative session. Limited state travel may be involved for which private means of transportation may be required. Quick deadlines for important reports and need for sensitive communication under challenging and difficult situations may be required. Interacts and communicate directly with senior Department leaders, state and federal government administrators, staff, legislators and constituents under stressful conditions. Must manage many complex administrative and policy related issues at once, including intense interactions with a variety of constituents and deadline pressures.
The role is a hybrid role requiring a presence at the state house during the legislative session.
Work is performed under the direction of the Department’s Commissioner.
Minimum Qualifications
Jurist Doctorate or Master’s degree AND three (3) years or more of experience at a professional level in the field of law, public policy or governmental relations.
OR
Bachelor’s degree AND five (5) years or more of experience at a professional level in the field of law, public policy or governmental relations.
