Like the rest of the population, Deaf, Hard of Hearing, and DeafBlind clients need legal representation. As all attorneys are aware, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) prohibits discrimination against people with disabilities. This includes potential clients with hearing challenges. That said, the Vermont Department of Disabilities, Aging, and Independent Living (DAIL) maintains a roster of attorneys who have indicated they are open to serving Deaf, Hard of Hearing, and Deaf Blind Clients. Siegel and co-presenter Cory Brunner, Vancro’s Vice President of Interpreting as well as an American Sign Language Interpreter, presented a 90-Minute CLE for the VBA in February 2024 titled, “Working Effectively with DHHDB Clients.” This session carries 1.5 hours of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion credit. The VBA will be hosting a related 90-minute follow-up CLE with Siegel and other co-presenters in June, 2025. Program details are in the works. The program is not yet open for registration but watch the VBA CLE calendar. This presentation will also be offered for free to VBA members.
