The Vermont Supreme Court is holding its annual “On the Road” series at Vermont Law and Graduate School on Wednesday, March 19, 2025 from 9:00 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. During the session, the Court will hear oral arguments in three cases in Oakes Hall on the VLGS campus.
“We are excited to go to VLGS again this year,” says Chief Justice Paul Reiber. “Holding oral arguments on campus provides students and the public the opportunity to watch the Court up close. An appeal is an important part of the judicial process and demonstrates how legal disagreements are resolved through dialogue with the lawyers in the cases.”
The Court will consider cases involving the following issues:
• Did the State present sufficient evidence of intent to convict the defendant of involuntary manslaughter and cruelty to a child with death resulting and are those verdicts mutually exclusive?
• Does state law prohibit all municipal regulation of agriculture or cannabis cultivation?
• Can plaintiffs recover emotional distress damages against an employer who negligently failed to prevent its employee from secretly filming plaintiffs while they were changing clothes, and is the employer jointly and severally liable for the intentional acts of the employee?
The calendar is on the Vermont Judiciary website. The cases will be livestreamed on the YouTube channel for Vermont Law and Graduate School.
